Penile prosthesis surgery is an established treatment option for selected men with erectile dysfunction when other appropriate treatments are ineffective, unsuitable or not desired.
A penile implant is not the first treatment for every man with ED. Evaluation should consider the cause of ED, previous treatments, medical conditions, expectations and sexual goals.
There are different prosthesis designs, including malleable and inflatable systems. Device selection depends on the patient, anatomy, availability, surgeon expertise and informed preference.
Because implant surgery is an operative treatment, detailed counselling about infection, mechanical problems, erosion, pain, altered penile sensation and other complications is essential.
Selected men with persistent ED after appropriate evaluation and counselling may be candidates.
A consultation can review previous ED treatments, medical history and expectations without assuming that surgery is necessary.
Please contact the clinic to confirm current surgical availability, implant options and referral/operative arrangements before making plans.
Treatment decisions are individualized after appropriate clinical assessment.
